In a ceremony heldn on 27 September 2017 Takamitsu Muraoka, Professor Emeritus of Hebrew Language and Literature, Israelite Antiquities and Ugaritic, Universiteit Leiden, received the Burkitt Medal for Hebrew Bible Studies of the British Academy for his ‘outstanding contribution to the study of Hebrew grammar and syntax, and the Septuagint.’ A substantial part of this research took place in the Netherlands. According to professor Muraoka, this reward also acknowledges the research in these fields in the Low Countries. Prof. Muraoka is the third OTW-member who is honoured with this important Medal, after prof. P.A.H. de Boer in 1980 and prof. A.S. van der Woude in 1995.
